Ticketmaster has designated the American Express card as its card of choice, a move that is part of a wide-ranging strategic alliance between the two firms.
As the card of choice for all ticket buying transactions, cardholders will nab a 15% savings on selected Ticketmaster merchandise such as CDs and entertainment-related items such as Broadway memorabilia, sports collectibles, and concert T-shirts.
Cardmembers must purchase these items when they buy tickets for events, either through the phone or online.
“Through this alliance, we are providing our Cardmembers with yet another unique and valuable benefit of using the American Express Card …” said Lloyd M. Wirshba, veep and general manager of restaurant and entertainment industries for American Express.
The alliance puts the America Express name in front of purchasers of the more than 75 million tickets worth north of $2.5 billion sold by the ticketing giant last year.
Previously, MasterCard was dubbed the card of choice in a deal that ended last year.
“This alliance will also enable us to provide a variety of exclusive value-added opportunities and benefits to our mutual consumers,” said Terry Barnes, prexy and CEO of Ticketmaster.
American Express has a minority investment in Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch, which, through its relationship with Ticketmaster, provides the exclusive online ticketing for Ticketmaster’s sports and entertainment clients.
