Eugene Brown has joined Sony Pictures Entertainment as a VP in the participation unit — the studio’s finance division that oversees talent compensation.
Brown will report to division senior veep Connie Calderon.
“We’re delighted to add someone of Gene Brown’s caliber and talent to our participations group,” said Sheldon Rabinowitz, exec VP of finance for the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group. “His many years of industry experience, particularly in dealing with talent obligations, will help strengthen our organization.”
Brown, a certified public accountant with broad studio experience, joins SPE from the Writers Guild of America West, where he worked since 1993 as a senior executive, directing the activities of the residuals, signatories and foreign levies departments.
At the Writers Guild, Brown also provided financial counsel to the guild’s legal staff regarding participations, residuals and production cost claims.
From 1985 to 1990, Brown worked for the Walt Disney Co. as veep and controller, and also as veep of participations and residuals.
Prior to that, Brown held finance positions at Warner Bros. from 1973-84.
