Peter Smith and Steve Pair have been tapped veepees of technical planning and engineering at NBC broadcast and network operations.
Smith has been charged with overseeing the creation of digital television services at the net’s owned-and-operated stations. Reporting to NBC broadcast and network operations prexy John Eck, Smith will also supervise the company’s technical planning and engineering activities. He joined NBC in 1983.
Working closely with Smith, Pair will help stations transition to high-definition TV and help coordinate engineering operations at NBC-owned stations. Most recently, Pair worked as director of engineering and operations at New York’s WNBC.
“I am confident that under Peter’s leadership, NBC will continue to be technical leaders, especially in the arena of digital television,” said Eck. “As advances in technology continue to progress, it is important NBC have a strong team in place, insuring our viewers have the best quality experience possible.”
