KNBC taps Heacox prexy

Sales veteran returns after three years in Gotham

Peacock sales veteran Ray Heacox has been named prexy and general manager of KNBC Los Angeles (Daily Variety , Feb. 18).

Heacox is returning to KNBC, the top-ranked station in the L.A. market, after spending the past three years in Gotham as exec VP of sales for the NBC O&O’s in-house advertising sales arm. He succeeds Carole Black, who left KNBC last month to become prexy of the Lifetime TV cabler.

“Ray brings a rich array of skills to the job. This is great news for the station and great news for our organization,” NBC O&O topper Pat Wallace said.

Heacox first joined KNBC in 1991 as manager of local sales and was soon upped to veep of sales before departing in 1996 for the group-level sales job.

“This is an absolutely terrific opportunity for me,” Heacox said. “I think the L.A. market is the most competitive and complex TV market in the country … and I am in the enviable position of walking into a great environment with talented people.”
