MIAMI — A Miami jury has ordered Telemundo to pay $2.6 million in damages for not honoring a verbal agreement to buy an Argentine soap.
The Miami jury found the Hispanic net guilty of breach of contract for not honoring a verbal agreement with Spanish Television Services to buy 170 episodes of “Mas Alla del Horizonte” (Beyond the Horizon) for $850,000 in March 1995, according to a report in the Miami Herald.
The Herald reported that then-new prexy Roland Hernandez cancelled the deal because a written contract was never signed.
The lawsuit predated the current Sony-led ownership and management team, said a Telemundo spokesman. Telemundo will likely appeal, he said.
