Ziskin nears Fox 2000 exit
One of the most anticipated exec changes of the last few months seems at last to be at hand: Fox 2000 prexy Laura Ziskin is close to an exit from her post.
While it’s unclear when Ziskin will step down (reports have ranged from Monday to the end of the year), insiders said that the exec’s decision has been made and that Fox is already in talks with other candidates to take her place.
It’s understood that Fox Filmed Entertainment chairman, William Mechanic, has approached 20th exec-VP of production Elizabeth Gabler to take over the division. Gabler’s move will likely be among a series of exec promotions expected to take place at Fox in the next few weeks.
Though outsiders have wondered whether Mechanic would keep the label open after Ziskin’s departure, insiders say he is committed to the banner, which has struggled through its five year existence.
While speculation had Ziskin setting up a production shingle at Columbia, it’s understood that talks on that front failed to produce a deal. Ziskin also has been rumored to be venturing to Warner Bros. where her former exec-VP, Kevin McCormick, is a top production exec. Another scenario would have Ziskin, who has denied talking to any studio about a production deal, remaining at Fox as a producer.
