Miramax leaner by a dozen
Even lean-and-mean Miramax Films can’t avoid Hollywood’s job-cutting virus. Over the past couple of days, the mini-major has handed out pink slips to a dozen low- to mid-level employees in its New York and L.A. offices.
The layoffs, which according to a company spokesman were part of a general restructuring, took place principally in the business and administrative departments. Only one VP was affected. Miramax has about 450 employees, excluding Talk Media.
Miramax sources denied rumors circulating Wednesday that the company had slashed up to 40 jobs, adding that the company’s Internet and TV divisions were actually expanding.
The spokesman added that the restructuring was not connected to cutbacks at parent company Disney. The Mouse House has been eliminating jobs on its TV side since merging those production operations with ABC.
