In an effort to focus more on production than acquisition, producer Cary Woods’ Independent Pictures has trimmed the staff in both its New York and Los Angeles offices.
Reached on the set of his latest pic, “Prime Gig,” which stars Vince Vaughn, Ed Harris and Julia Ormond, Woods told Daily Variety: “We analyzed the business of acquisitions and we thought it was more of a studio business. I’d like to focus more time on production. Also, we decided that the marketing side of things really needed to be in New York.”
Two of the company’s executives were let go, while several others based in Los Angeles were given the option of relocating to New York — the company’s new base of operations.
Woods produced such pics as “Scream,” “Cop Land,” “Kids” and “Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead.”
