Getmusic taps Nibley

Exec ankles Reuters NewMedia prexy post

Andrew Nibley has been named president and CEO of GetMusic, the joint venture between BMG Entertainment and Universal Music to promote artists and sell their music online.

Nibley comes from Reuters, where he co-founded Reuters NewMedia in 1994 and currently serves as its president. He will join GetMusic on Oct. 1 to oversee and manage all operations.

GetMusic promotes BMG and Universal artists at a host of genre-based Web sites including peeps.com, bugjuice.com, twangthis.com and rockuniverse.com. These sites are linked to GetMusic’s e-commerce site, which offers 250,000 titles.

Universal and BMG, which have a combined current album share of nearly 50% of the U.S. market, announced their partnership in April. GetMusic is also seen as a platform to eventually launch digital downloading of music from the Internet.
