Digital video recorder maker TiVo has tapped Michael Mutz as veep of sales, while Morgan Guenther has been named veep of business development.
In his new position, Mutz will oversee TiVo’s retail launch and establish the company’s ongoing sales strategy. The service’s set-top boxes are currently available only by contacting the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company by phone or through its Web site.
TiVo began shipping its boxes, which are built by Philips, in March. The machines cost $500 and provide 14 hours of digital programmability. Subscribers must also pay a monthly fee of $9.99.
Mutz was most recently veep of Eastern operations for U.S. Cellular, where he was in charge of managing the company’s wireless telecommunications business. He was also general manager of direct marketing at AT&T.
Guenther will work to develop partnerships with leading consumer electronics and cable companies while striving to strengthen the company’s strategic alliances.
The company has secured investments from CBS, NBC, Philips Electronics, DirecTV, Showtime Networks, the Walt Disney Co., and Liberty Media subsids Liberty Digital and Encore Media Group.
Prior to joining TiVo, Guenther was a partner at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. He was also a partner at Farella, Braun & Martel.
