Sherak to emcee Variety Club Golf Classic's dinner

The Variety Club charity and a host of industry companies will tee off in support of L.A.’s needy children at Monday’s 28th Annual Variety Club Golf Classic at the Porter Valley Country Club in Northridge.

Nikki Rocco, prexy of distribution at Universal Pictures, will serve as honorary chair, and Metropolitan Theater’s veep of planning and development, Bill Hughes, will act as the Golf Classic chairman. Tom Sherak, chairman of 20th Century Fox Films, will emcee the event dinner.

Pre-Classic fundraising has garnered $80,000, with financial support stemming from Buena Vista Pictures, Imax Corp., MGM, Sony Pictures, USA Films and Warner Bros. among many others. Total donations look to rival last year’s total of more than $92,000.

Since its inception in 1941, the southern California branch of the Variety Club has raised more than $35 million for services including health programs, crisis hotlines and after school curriculums.
