WASHINGTON — The Federal Communications Commission and the Justice Department announced Monday that they will not enforce a federal ban against casino advertising on radio and television.
The announcement is the direct result of a recent unanimous Supreme Court decision which found that casino ad restrictions are unconstitutional.
“This is a major First Amendment victory for the National Assn. of Broadcasters and the broadcast industry,” said NAB prexy Eddie Fritts. The NAB has been fighting the ad restrictions for over a decade.
The federal government made it clear in its filings that it will abandon the restrictions in all 50 states.
