Carpenter to lead tech at digital entertainment

DEN plans to launch 30 new pilots, produced inhouse

Former Microsoft marketing vet Greg Carpenter has joined ‘Netcaster Digital Entertainment Network as chief technology officer. DEN broadcasts shows online to young Internet users.

Carpenter will focus on driving DEN’s Gen Y online network of video, music and e-commerce programming. He will report to DEN CEO Jim Ritts.

During his six-year stint at Microsoft, Carpenter served as a key developer of imaging and graphic software for DOS and Windows, and also led Microsoft’s direction onto the Internet.

Demands on medium

Most recently, Carpenter was director of marketing for Microsoft’s Windows Media Technologies, marketing online audio player Windows Media Player, Windows Media Services and Windows Media Tools.

“For the first time in history, a generation has grown up with a technological sophistication that demands a faster, more engaging medium to access information,” Carpenter said.

DEN broadcasts 10 original series online (www.den.net) targeting 14 -to 24-year-olds. The Santa Monica-based company plans to launch 30 new pilots, produced inhouse, in the coming year.
