MADRID — Film and TV producer Eduardo Campoy is replacing Gerardo Herrero as president of Fapae, Spain’s powerful producers lobby.
Appointed in 1996, producer and director Herrero helped negotiate increased Spanish film financing deals with most broadcasters.
“Our challenge at Fapae is now to consolidate the Spanish market, encouraging more investment in roughly the same number of films produced (65 in 1998), making them better and more profitable,” said Campoy, the producer of Fernando Trueba’s “The Girl of Your Dreams” and director of “Al limite.”
Jesus Hernandez, the former director of Spain’s Media Desk, will join Fapae as its general manager.
Herrero will return to pic production and direction. He also aims to team with other Spanish producers to invest some $21 million in building film studios in Madrid’s Ciudad de la Imagen production center.
