GOOD MORNING: “Charlton Heston, aka Moses, should emphasize the 10 Commandments and not the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Thou shalt not kill, Charlton!” That’s what Shirley Temple told me after reading Heston’s remarks on being elected president of the NRA. Temple (Mrs. Charles Black) is very familiar with the Second Amendment and the workings of our government, having been U.S. Representative to the U.N. General Assembly, our Ambassador to both Ghana and the former Czechoslovakia, and White House Chief of Protocol. And, of course, the most beloved child actress of all time. At present, she is “seriously looking into” the 20th Century Fox releases of “Shirley Temple Sing-A-Long and Dance-A-Long” on video, consisting of tunes she sang and danced to in those memorable movies … And while we’re strolling down memory lane, I am reminded that the 300-350 residents in the Motion Picture & TV Fund’s Country House, Lodge and Hospital, while enjoying the good life in Woodland Hills, are lacking the personal connection to their former (?) lives. They just had a wonderful visit/performance by multi-talented Tony Danza, and they tell me, “It was hard to tell who, the audience or the performers, enjoyed the show more.” But more performers — actors, singers, etc. — are urged to come out and give them a happy hour or so. Their pride and joy, the 150-seat Goldwyn Mayer Theater, has a full stage, piano and dressing rooms — and marvelous acoustics.

One baby, that is … Would you believe the 99 Cents Only Stores are advertising a Father’s Day Special: the Lyle Menendez book, “In His Own Words.” The same ad features an ad for “Viagara” (their spelling, not ours) “pure drinking water” … And while we’re adding to your education: with the Licensing ’98 trade show in swing at the Jacob Javits Center in N.Y., Licensing mag says deals are also in the works for merchandise-related products linked to “Jeopardy,” “Wheel of Fortune” and “Dawson’s Creek” to join the hundreds of other TV and movie show licensees … KCET changed its June pledge sked to re-broadcast “Frank Sinatra: The Very Good Years” (’60s and ’70s) Thursday … Pix of Marilyn Monroe in a 1952 exercise layout by Philipe Halsman were discovered and are part of Conde Nast Women’s Sports & Fitness July-August issue, in which MM is quoted as saying, I’m fighting gravity. HARRISON FORD AND DIRECTOR Ivan Reitman continued to politely-but-positively answer the unending (and by now boring) questions about the romantic teaming of Ford with Anne Heche in Touchstone’s “Six Days, Seven Nights” at the preem Monday p.m. The pic screened at the Avco Westwood and a glamorous party followed poolside at the BevHills Hotel, which was transformed into the tropical “Hana Iti” resort of the film. Of course Heche and Ellen DeGeneres arrived arm in arm and took bows from the audience’s enthusiastic response. Heche’s film card is full with offers, with “Psycho” among the upcoming. In Propaganda/Polygram’s August release of “Return to Paradise,” Heche has some steamy scenes with Vince Vaughn in the pic, which also stars Joaquin Phoenix. Joe Ruben directs and Alain Bernheim and Steve Golin produce with exec producer David Arnold. DeGeneres, meanwhile, segued from the finale of her TV series to “Ed TV” but told me she has an idea for another series — but will wait a year before stepping into those waters again … Others on hand at the preem from the cast of the $81 million “Days/Nights” included David Schwimmer, whom Reitman highly credited as “a very serious actor,” and the very exciting newcomer Jacqueline Obradors, who got the role in an open audition. P.S. The accent she uses in the role isn’t hers: she copied her (Argentine) mom’s … Katey Sagal and Ken Solomon, prez of Studios USA TV, are honored today at the BevHilton for their work with the H.E.L.P. group.
