Star style should shine at Oscars

GOOD MORNING: The 70th Academy Awards is looking like a fashion field day. Fred Hayman unveils a showing of some of the luxury items Thursday and I caught a preview at his (soon-to-depart) store on Rodeo Drive. The designer names include Armani, Dior, Ungaro, Pamela Dennis, Guy Larouche, Zandra Rhodes, Bob Mackie, Balenciaga, Gianfranco Ferre, Nolan Miller, Vicky Tiel plus items from Bulgari, Kathrine Bauman’s signature handbags –including a replica of the “Titanic” (valued at $20,000), also bags from Swarovski, Vaness Noel and Figueroa shoes. This year even Price Waterhouse’s ballot team, carrying the famous briefcase, will be outfitted in Calvin Klein and for the first time, a female partner’s on the ballot team. She’s Lisa Pierozzi — replacing the retired Frank Johnson. Price Waterhouse senior partner Greg Garrison continues holding the secrets … And the Academy’s president Bob Rehme is also sending out a 70th anniversary pin to all 6,000 Acad members to wear that night. The pin is loosely based on Arnold Schwartzman’s poster design … Add fashion note: the Motion Picture & TV Fund plus the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS presents “Edith Head — A Retrospectacular,” a cocktail couture event, April 23 at Cipriani in N.Y. It will be funded by Chivas Regal and Clarissa and Edgar Bronfman Jr., co-chair. The show will reveal new creations inspired by some of Hollywood’s most famous classic films — including 20 original Edith Head designs. Plus the original gown worn by Janet Leigh at the 1962 JFK inaugural. The show is presented by B’way producer Robert Franz and director David Bell.

PRESIDENT CLINTON’S QUICK TRIP to BevHills for Saturday’s party at Green Acres raised $800,000 for Barbara Boxer’s senatorial campaign. Clinton had winged in from daughter Chelsea’s 18th birthday celebration at the Deer Valley home of Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Clinton returned there after the party. At dinner, Clinton sat with Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes, Haim Saban and wife Cheryl, Mary (Turner) and Norm Pattiz and Debra and Sim Farar (he co-hosted with Ron Burkle who sat at Boxer’s table). Roseanne was a surprise arrival at the VIP reception (for those who raised $20,000-$50,000). Roseanne said she was with “my new boyfriend.” But he was really the producer of her upcoming talker, Alan Stephan. Anne Heche and Ellen DeGeneres two-stepped with the President during the light-hearted evening … The Monsigneur Strings’ Murray Korda told Clinton he (Murray) was no stranger to Green Acres — having played checkers there with Harold Lloyd over the years. The Secret Service must have been surprised when Korda suddenly reached into his violin case — to bring out a picture of himself with Clinton, which he asked the President to autograph! … Thursday, the President and Hillary Clinton host a reception at the White House following a screening of one hourlong part of HBO’s 12-part, $65 million “From The Earth To The Moon” with exec producer Tom Hanks (who also directed the first seg), Imagine’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, Ted Turner, Jeff Bewkes, thesps, astronauts and solons on hand. John F. Kennedy Jr. will also address the group — it was his father who inspired the race for space. The HBO’er boasts rarely seen stock footage from the NASA space programs. The event is timely as the White House has declared next week “Science Week.”

Rose Narva continues at the luxury property, which she created and opened in December 1995.
