As part of its growing presence in the Spanish broadcast market, Columbia TriStar Intl. Television has opened an office in Madrid and has named Nathalie Garcia director of sales, Spain.
In addition to increased customer service in sales and distribution of programming in the region, operations in Spain will focus on identifying opportunities for the production and acquisition of Spanish-lingo programming.
With other CTIT European offices in London, Paris and Cologne, Germany, this new office underscores the studio’s commitment to expanding its business operations in this crucial region.
Boost for Telemundo
In addition, CTIT parent company Sony Pictures Entertainment recently acquired a major stake in Telemundo and is looking for ways to boost the Latino broadcaster’s programming options.
Garcia, who is the former head of acquisitions for station TeleMadrid, will focus primarily on sales and distribution. She will also identify opportunities for channel development and local production. Garcia will report to Chris Law, sales director, Europe, who has managed CTIT activities in Spain for the past three years.
“Spain is a major European television market and a key region for CTIT’s international expansion,” said John McMahon, exec VP, European operations, CTIT. “As Spain’s broadcast landscape experiences rapid change with the addition of digital distribution outlets and continued strong demand for indigenous product, CTIT’s presence is imperative for maintaining key client and cross-divisional relationships.”
Although SPE has maintained offices for its theatrical and video divisions in Spain, this is the first time that an office dedicated to Spanish television has been established by the Hollywood studio.
