Showtime firms novel idea

To produce 12 telepics with Granada Entertainment

Showtime on Friday confirmed that it has entered into a deal with Granada Entertainment USA to co-finance, produce and distribute an initial slate of 12 films that will premiere in North America on the pay cabler (Daily Variety, March 12).

Six of the films will fall under the banner of “Great American Novels of the 20th Century,” and each will be budgeted in the $3 million to $5 million range. The partnership includes film projects that are already being developed by the two companies.

Granada, in its first push into longform TV production, will distribute the films outside North America through its production arm, BRITE.
