Actor Rick Schroder, 28, closed a deal Friday to join the cast of ABC’s “NYPD Blue” next season.
Schroder is joining the cast of the Steven Bochco series after the departure of lead actor Jimmy Smits. Schroder will play the newest detective in the 15th precinct.
Schroder has starred in films such as “Crimson Tide,” “Across the Tracks,” “The Earthling” and “The Champ,” but he’s probably best known for his childhood role in the series “Silver Spoons” and for TV movies and miniseries such as “Lonesome Dove.”
“Schroder is a wonderful young actor who will bring tremendous energy to ‘NYPD Blue’ and allow us writers to approach our sixth season and beyond with fresh ideas,” Bochco said.
“I am thrilled to be joining one of the most talented casts on TV and to have the opportunity to work with a remarkably impressive group of writers and producers,” Schroder said.
Schroder is repped by manager Robert Stein and ICM agents Leigh Brillstein and Tracy Brennan.
