MIAMI — Satcaster Galaxy Latin America (GLA) has agreed to carry four channels from Spanish media group RTVE, several of them to be offered in the region for the first time.
General entertainment web TVE International, docu channel Hispavision, and regional entrant Euronews will be offered via GLA’s DirecTV service as of May, along with radio service Radio Uno.
The accord contemplates the addition of two more channels — newsnet Canal 24 horas and classical music station Radio Dos — from mid-year, and further possible channels down the road.
RTVE general director Fernando Lopez-Amor y Garcia told Daily Variety he has two more entertainment-based channels in development.
RTVE will also supply Spanish soccer games to DirecTV. Further, GLA has U.S. rights for RTVE programming, which it will incorporate into a U.S. Hispanic slate that it is developing with the U.S. DirecTV service.
The accord comes six weeks after GLA took a 6.9% stake in Spanish satcaster Via Digital, in which RTVE is a principal player along with Telefonica and Mexico’s Televisa.
