Burt Reynolds will direct and star in the first of a previously reported trilogy of police thriller films for Larry Levinson Prods. that will air on TNT (Daily Variety, Dec. 19).
Julie Weitz, exec VP of original programming for TNT, said the first vidpic, “Hard Time,” is a “character study with the same dark contemporary backdrop that helped make movies like ‘Sharkey’s Machine’ and ‘The Longest Yard’ signature Burt Reynolds films.”
The plotline of “Hard Time” finds Reynolds’ character Conrad Logan framed in a murder and forced to serve hard time in a maximum security prison. He is then retried and freed.
Reynolds last week was named a supporting actor Oscar nominee for “Boogie Nights.”
Levinson will executive produce the three films in association with Frankfurter Filmproduction and Degeto Film. Principal photography is slated to begin in May.
