PRAGUE — Prima TV, long the loser in the Czech ratings race, beat out the competition for the first time last week.
With the start of the new season Aug. 29, lineup of U.S. sitcom “Nobody’s Perfect” (featuring Bronson Pinchot as a Central European naif and titled “Perfect Strangers” in the U.S.) and German dog-and-cop show “Commissar Rex” each locked up 33% shares.
They outdistanced heavyweight Nova TV (which aired “Batman Forever”) and pubcaster Czech TV’s two channels (one featuring popular local comic Bolek Polivka’s entertainment show).
The coup marked a success for new program director Petr Koliha, in the post since late spring.
Prima now reaches 75% of the Czech population, and is still expanding its coverage. It has maintained a solid 10%-11% share over the last half year, up from the 3%-4% it commanded a year earlier.
