Talkshow vet Jose Pretlow has been tapped the new showrunner on Columbia TriStar TV Distribution’s latenight syndie strip “Vibe.”
Pretlow comes to “Vibe” after spending the past three years as exec producer of Tribune Entertainment’s “Geraldo Rivera,” which is wrapping an 11-year run in daytime at the end of this season. Pretlow has also served stints as a senior producer for syndie talkers “Donahue” and “Sally Jessy Raphael.”
Pretlow is the fourth showrunner to take the reins of “Vibe” since the show debuted last August, although the last two people in the job, Kim Swann and John Goldhammer, were expected to have a short tenure at the outset.
Pretlow is believed to be the first exec producer tapped on a permanent basis since the original showrunner, Daniel Kellison, exited “Vibe” last November. Host Sinbad and creators Quincy Jones and David Salzman also are exec producers on the show.
“Vibe” has had a spotty track record ratings-wise since its premiere, but Columbia TriStar has pledged its support for the show and has sealed second-year renewal deals with TV stations covering more than 80% of U.S. TV households.
