Plowright in Lane sitcom

From the producers of 'Frasier'

Actress Joan Plowright has joined the cast of Nathan Lane’s upcoming NBC comedy “Encore,” from the producers of “Frasier.”

Plowright, who will play the mother of Lane’s character, has appeared in many feature films, including “101 Dalmatians,” “Surviving Picasso,” “Jane Eyre,” “Mr. Wrong,” “The Scarlet Letter” and “Enchanted April.”

She’s repped by UTA.

Also joining the cast are Molly Price (“Mighty Aphrodite”), who will play Lane’s sister, James Patrick Stewart (“Pretty Woman”), who will play his best friend, and Evan Mathews, playing his teen brother.

“Encore,” set to debut this fall, is produced by Paramount Network TV and created by Anne Flett-Giordano and Chuck Ranberg, as well as David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee. Shooting begins April 7.

In other casting news, Samantha Mathis (“Broken Arrow,” “The American President,” “Little Women”) has been cast in Disney’s Fox pilot “Some Guys,” and Lori Petty (“Set It Off,” “Tank Girl, “Lush Life”) has been cast in the Disney pilot “Honolulu CRU” for ABC.

UPN has cast Julie Hagerty (“Airplane!”) in the Castle Rock relationship comedy pilot “Nicki” from Dee LaDuke and Mark Alton Brown.

UPN also has added to its comedy pilot list “Time Out,” created by Russell Marcus, a co-executive producer on “Malcolm & Eddie.” Jim Henson Prods. is producing the domestic sitcom about a Dad raising three attractive, out-of-control teen daughters.

Another UPN comedy pilot is Viacom Prods.’ “Extra Sauce,” from Vicki Horwits and Sy Rosen (“Working”). The female buddy show is about two overweight women who host a cooking show.

UPN also has “Emily’s Men” from Columbia TriStar TV and executive producer Scott Kaufer (“Arliss”), which is about three generations of men tied together by the woman in their lives who left them. “Redneck Riviera” from Castle Rock TV is executive produced by Ken Solarz (“City of Industry”) and John Davies, about a single mom living in a trailer park in the South and working at a truck stop.
