Peacock dons pinstripes

WNBC to produce half-hour Yank specials

WNBC has come down with a major case of Yankees fever.

The Peacock’s Gotham flagship will produce four half-hour specials spotlighting the Bronx Bombers’ amazing 1998 season and looking ahead to the team’s upcoming quest for a World Series title. Not surprisingly, NBC Sports, along with Fox, is airing the Yanks’ playoff games.

Specs, all titled “The Pride of New York,” will air today through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Fran Charles will anchor the first special, with Len Berman hosting the others.

“Access Hollywood” will be preempted for the rest of the week to make room for the specials. On Saturday, WNBC’s “GameDay New York” football preview show will shift to 6 p.m., bumping the station’s early newscast, to make room for the “Pride” special.
