Cabler to run record race vignettes
Kids cabler Nickelodeon will join the hoopla surrounding Mark McGwire’s and Sammy Sosa’s pursuit of the single-season home run record by running daily “Home Run Record Race” vignettes each night beginning today.
Produced in partnership with Major League Baseball, Nick’s vignettes will tackle the pursuit of Roger Maris’ record with updates on the chase for the record and kid interviews with players, including McGwire and Sosa.
The 45-second “Home Run Record Race” will air every day on Nick just prior to its 7 p.m. programming lineup. Nick will present a new vignette each day, continuing through the end of baseball’s regular season on Sept. 27.
The vignettes will also be offered to Major League teams for use in their stadiums.
In addition to Nick, Fox began airing nightly updates of the home run race on Aug. 25. Between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., Fox updates viewers on McGwire’s and Sosa’s latest exploits. The broadcast net will continue the updates until one of them breaks the record by hitting number 62.
