NBC, Obst cast ‘The ’60s’

O'Connell, Hamilton, Stiles in leads

NBC Studios and feature film producer Lynda Obst (“Contact,” “Sleepless in Seattle”) have completed casting on the four-hour miniseries “The ’60s,” which has begun production in Los Angeles.

Jerry O’Connell, Josh Hamilton and Julia Stiles have been cast as three siblings whose lives are affected by the turbulent events of the 1960s. Bill Smitrovich and Annie Corley will play the parents who struggle to cope with the social changes of the decade.

Obst exec produces and Mark Piznarsky directs from a script by Bill Couturie and Robert Greenfield. Leonard Roberts, Jeremy Sisto and Jordana Brewster also star.

The miniseries will blend the historic events of the decade with the journey of the fictional family. Music from the period will be prominent throughout the pic, and a companion soundtrack CD is planned.

Corley and Smitrovich were repped in the deal by Renee Jennett and Tim Angle at Don Buchwald & Associates. Smitrovich is also managed by Steven Siebert at Lighthouse Entertainment.
