Fox topper could make appearance in Springfield
Talk about synergy: News Corp. topper Rupert Murdoch could soon lend his voice to “The Simpsons.”
Matt Groening, the creator and executive producer of the Fox Broadcasting Co.’s animated hit, says he’s asked Murdoch to make a cameo voice appearance on an upcoming episode of the Twentieth Television-produced series. “If Rupert will do it and if he’ll say the lines, it will happen,” Groening told reporters Wednesday during Fox’s portion of the Television Critics Assn. summer press tour.
Groening says Murdoch would play himself, but declined to give any further details about how the media baron would figure into the episode. A showdown between Murdoch and Springfield’s own crafty capitalist, Monty Burns, would make sense, however.
Meanwhile, Groening will soon make an appearance on one of his own toons. The producer says he’ll appear as a disembodied head in a glass jar during an early episode of “Futurama,” which is set to debut on Fox midseason.
