Channel in tune with local music
MOSCOW — The latest addition to the MTV world network, MTV Russia, is set to launch at midnight on Sept. 25 near Moscow’s Kremlin. Leading the project as board chairman and chief producer is Boris Zosimov, founder of Biz TV, who later became CEO at Polygram Russia. Jay Moses will be MTV Russia’s prexy.
Initial agreement was first announced at Cannes in April this year, and is for a 5-year period. Initially, MTV Russia will broadcast on Moscow’s Channel 38 as well as on Tele-Expo, and in St. Petersburg on Channel 51, with partner stations in other major cities to be added in the future.
Zosimov is heralding his channel as a groundbreaker among MTV stations for the high proportion of local music product — about 50% — to be included in broadcast schedules.
Investment for MTV Russia, according to Zosimov, is in the region of $30 million-$40 million, and comes from a Russian investment fund.
