MILAN — Roberto Pace, 46, a veteran of Italy’s TV industry, has been appointed head of acquisitions of Mediaset, Fininvest’s TV company and Italy’s largest commercial broadcaster.
Pace previously was a top executive at Canale 5, Mediaset’s flagship channel; before that, he worked for pubcaster RAI as head of its satellite cultural channel. Abroad, he worked for Channel 4 in the U.K. and the European Coproduction Assn. in Germany.
Since Giovanni Stabilini left Mediaset earlier this year, the crucial position of head buyer was temporarily held by Gabriella Ballabio, who will remain on the acquisitions team. New York-based Daniele Lorenzano will continue representing Mediaset in the U.S.
Pace’s responsibilities will be expanded, as Mediaset has just decided to unify all acquisition activities under one structure that Pace will head. “The group has decided to unify all the buyers in one single team, with a single budget, to be more flexible and to have a larger control over purchases. If we need to invest more in the acquisition of sports programming, for example, we can focus our investments on it and reduce the expenses for docus, or vice versa,” Pace said.
