Linney’s write for ‘Love Letters’

Thesp joins cast of Donen-helmed telepic

Laura Linney, fresh from starring opposite Jim Carrey in “The Truman Show” and on Broadway opposite Jane Alexander in “Honour,” will shift gears with the telepic “Love Letters” under Stanley Donen in his first TV helming job.

Linney will play one of a pair of lifelong friends who fall in love as children and continue to write love letters to each other throughout their lives.

Pic, which is based on A.R. Gurner’s international hit play, begins production in September in Toronto. A male lead has not yet been cast.

Martin Starger and Leonard Goldberg are exec producing.

Linney has appeared in such pics as “Absolute Power,” “Primal Fear” and “Congo.”

She was repped by ICM.
