Picked up by 90 markets

The syndie TV spinoff of New Line’s “Mortal Kombat” pics is ready to rampage this fall on TV stations and cable systems covering more than 90% of U.S. TV households.

“Mortal Kombat Krusades,” distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution, has been picked up by broadcast outlets in 90 TV markets, including all of the top 40. Hourlong weekly series also will be featured in the lineup of the WeB, the WB-backed cable web serving smaller TV markets below the top 100.

Live-action series, exec produced by Larry Kasanoff, will put the accent on martial arts and special effects. Based on the hit videogame, the “Mortal Kombat” franchise has already spawned two features and an animated series that aired on Fox. Kasanoff’s Threshold Entertainment and New Line TV will produce the new series, with WB handling marketing and distribution.

Among the major-market stations signing on for “Mortal Kombat Krusades” are WCBS New York, KCAL Los Angeles, WCIU Chicago and WPSG Philadelphia.
