Call it vacationus interruptus.
Peter Jennings was supposed to have the entire month of August off — but with the sexgate scandal heating up in Washington, the ABC News anchor has decided to take a brief break from his vacation to head up the web’s coverage of President Clinton’s grand jury testimony next week.
After finishing his delayed honeymoon with wife Katherine Freed in Turkey, Jennings will fly back to the States at the end of this week as scheduled. But rather than head out for more R&R, the ABC anchor will instead stay in New York to host Sunday’s “White House in Crisis: The President Testifies,” a primetime special that was to have been anchored by Charles Gibson.
Jennings will also anchor “World News Tonight” for at least several evenings next week. How long Jennings stays on the job — and away from the rest of his vacation — may depend upon just how much can be gleaned about Clinton’s grand jury performance.
