HBO will produce an original documentary exploring the history of women in sports, said Ross Greenburg, HBO Sports senior VP and executive producer.
The 90-minute film will air in March to coincide with Women’s History Month.
Using moments in American history as a backdrop for women’s athletic achievements, the doc will look at how the suffrage movement, the 1960s and Title IX helped set the stage for the WNBA, ABL and today’s star female athletes.
The program will include interviews with Chris Evert, Billie Jean King, Mary Carillo, Martina Navritalova and basketball stars Nancy Lieberman-Cline, Ann Meyers, Sheryl Swoopes, among others.
Greenburg is the project’s executive producer. Kendall Reid is senior producer and Julie Anderson is producer.
