Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel to hit small screen

Writer-director John Harrison has been tabbed to adapt the Frank Herbert classic sci-fi novel “Dune” as a six-hour miniseries for New Amsterdam Entertainment in association with ABC Pictures for air on cable’s Sci-Fi Channel.

Harrison will write and direct the project, which is being executive produced by Richard P. Rubinstein and Mitchell Galin.

Deal comes on the heels of Harrison’s recent collaboration on the screenplay of “Dinosaur” for Disney, his first animated feature. He also directed “Tales From the Darkside, the Movie” for Paramount.
