The Food Network appointed Melinda Fishman as VP, programming and production, and Michael John Smith as VP, creative services.
In her new job, Fishman will supervise the cable web’s production and oversee future program development. She will report to Eileen Opatut, senior VP of programming, operations and production for the Food Network.
Most recently, Fishman ran her own media consulting practice, with clients in broadcast and cable television, including the Food Network. Prior to her consulting business, Fishman was VP of product development and production at Viacom New Media.
Fishman’s career also includes managing Lifetime’s West Coast programming department and serving as director of development at All Girl Prods., Bette Midler’s production company.
As the Food Network’s VP of creative services, Smith will be responsible for managing the creation of all on-air and off-air promotion, show opens, network branding, logo and graphic design and the creation of all ads and collateral material.
He will report to Heidi Diamond, senior VP of marketing and business development for the Food Network.
Smith joins the Food Network from the Disney Channel, where he spend eight years, most recently as executive director of on-air promotion.
Earlier in his career, Smith worked for CBS Television in New York, where he was the key liaison between the CBS Network and local affiliate station managers. He also spent a number of years at Young and Rubicam Advertising.
