Eye onboard for ‘Payne’

Larroquette, Williams topline series

CBS has ordered nine episodes of the John Larroquette comedy “Payne” from Studios USA.

The sitcom, a remake of the British comedy “Fawlty Towers,” is set to debut midseason. CBS originally had wanted just six episodes of the series, but Studios USA and Larroquette did not want to accept such a small order. The eight-episode-plus pilot compromise was eventually reached.

Larroquette co-stars with JoBeth Williams as owners of a restored Victorian inn on the California coast. “Payne” is executive produced by Judd Pillott and John Peaslee, Larroquette, Jerry Leider and Richard Reisberg.
