Move over soccer. The hottest TV show in Holland and a clutch of other Euro territories is domino tumbling!

“Domino D-Day,” an attempt to beat the existing world record for knocking over dominoes, earned a whopping 65% market share for Dutch broadcaster SBS6 on Aug. 28. Some 4 million people tuned in to watch the SBS6/John de Mol Prods. spectacle of domino construction by 100 builders and its subsequent demise, which aired live at 9 p.m.

During the show the Dutch recovered their place in the Guinness Book of World Records by erecting and tumbling 1,605,797 domino tiles. The producers used 20 cameras, six mini-cams, two super slow-motion cameras, 50 microphones, and 350 moving and standing lights.

“Domino D-Day” has or will air on SBS sister stations in Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Hungary and Slovenia. It was seen by 9.3 million viewers in Germany, where RTL aired live coverage of the program.
