DirecTV, Echostar pact for ESPN West

Cabler to carry games of L.A.-area Disney-owned franchises

Disney’s ESPN has inked carriage agreements with satcasters DirecTV and Echostar for ESPN West, the new Southern California regional sports cabler set to bow in October.

Together, DirecTV and Echostar have about 4.7 million subscribers, but it’s unclear how many of those subs outside of the Southern California area will be eligible to receive the regionally oriented service.

ESPN West’s program lineup will include games of two Disney-owned pro sports franchises: the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim NHL team and the Anaheim Angels Major League Baseball club.

ESPN has yet to announce any carriage commitments with cable operators for ESPN West, first unveiled last December.
