Cusack to ride ‘Jack Bull’ for HBO

Badham to helm New Crime pic

NEW YORK — HBO has signed John Cusack (“Grosse Pointe Blank”) for its original film “The Jack Bull,” which will begin shooting Sept. 15 in Calgary, Canada.

John Badham (“Nick of Time”) will direct from a script by Dick Cusack, the actor’s father.

John Cusack also serves as executive producer along with Steve Pink and D.V. DeVincentis under their New Crime Prods. banner.

“The Jack Bull” is about a Wyoming horse trader, played by Cusack, who accuses a fellow rancher of abusing his horses and their Crow Indian caretaker. When the local court throws out Cusack’s character’s complaint, he wages a war to force the rancher to nurse the emaciated animals back to health.

Ellen Collett is the HBO executive in charge of the project, which is being produced by the web’s Los Angeles-based HBO Pictures division.
