‘Corners’ creamed

CBS premiere sinks to new low for timeslot

The CBS premiere of “Four Corners” placed a disappointing fourth in homes and fell to fifth place among the adults 18-49 in its first hour, behind the WB’s “Dawson’s Creek.”

The two-hour premiere averaged a 6.9/11 in homes and a 2.2 in adults 18-49, making it the Eye web’s worst post-Olympics midseason series premiere ever. “Four Corners” sank below the already low bar set by the previous timeslot occupants, “Michael Hayes” at 9 p.m. and “Dellaventura” at 10 p.m.

For the night, ABC placed first in homes (11.7/18) and adults 18-49 (8.0); NBC was second (11.1/17 and 7.2), and Fox was third (8.7/13 and 6.1). CBS placed fourth for the night in homes (7.6/12) and fifth in young adults (2.6), which is especially dismal given the Olympics promotion platform and expected afterglow.

The WB was fifth in homes (4.6/7) and fourth in adults 18-49 (2.7). UPN trailed in sixth place (2.2/3 and 1.1).

‘Home’ sweet ratings

At 8 p.m., a repeat of “Home Improvement” defeated originals on all the other webs in homes and demos, while NBC’s “Mad About You” placed second with 9.8/15 in homes and a 6.1 in adults 18-49.

At 8:30 p.m., “Soul Man” won its timeslot with a 10.3/16 in homes and a 6.8 in young adults. The second half-hour of CBS’ “Jag” placed second in homes (9.5/14) and NBC’s “Newsradio” and Fox’s “Daredevils Live!” tied for second in young adults (5.8).

At 9 p.m., ABC’s “Home Improvement” killed the competition in homes (14.7/21) and adults 18-49 (11.0), followed by “Frasier” (12.6/18 and 8.6). “Four Corners” placed fourth in homes (7.1/11) for the 9 p.m. hour and fifth in adults 18-49 (2.2).

‘Dawson’s’ dips

The WB’s “Dawson’s Creek” was fifth in homes (5.0/7) after dropping 4% from last week, when it was against the Olympics. But “Dawson’s” was fourth in adults 18-49 (2.9) — ahead of CBS — even after falling 12% from last week.

At 10 p.m., NBC’s “Dateline” was first in homes (12.0/20) and second among young adults (7.3). ABC’s “NYPD Blue” was second in homes (11.7/20) and first in young adults (7.7).
