LONDON — Carlton TV has hooked up with Los Angeles-based Dick Clark Prods. to produce a one-off American version of its ITV reality hit “Neighbors From Hell” for ABC.
Carlton and Dick Clark have also agreed to develop further concepts based on the “… From Hell” format for the American market. Other shows produced by Carlton in the U.K. have included “Nannies From Hell” and “Builders From Hell.”
The common theme in the series involves people recounting their true-life troubles with bad neighbors (or nannies, builders, etc.), often backed up by homevideo footage.
While British critics have condemned the format as trashy and prurient, it has proved compulsive viewing for mass audiences, with the “Neighbors From Hell” attracting a 40% share on the ITV web.
