Canal Plus pacts for Polish digital

Deal stings U.S. company

PARIS — French pay television group Canal Plus has forged a new digital alliance in Poland.

Canal Plus Polska, the premium pay television service which currently has around 250,000 subscribers, is teaming up with public broadcaster Telewijza Polska (TVP), leading private broadcaster Polsat and Polish telecom TPSA to jointly run a new digital platform scheduled to become operational this fall.

The move is a setback for U.S.-based @Entertainment, which has its own digital ambitions in Poland.

Canal Plus Polska and @Entertainment were to have been partners in a digital platform, but talks fell apart amid mutual recriminations. @Entertainment was set to launch its digital offering via an Astra satellite later this month.
