Host of anchors headed for D.C.
Tom Brokaw is the latest network news anchor to have his summer vacation plans disrupted by the never-ending investigation of independent counsel Kenneth Starr in Washington.
With President Clinton’s testimony — planned for Monday before Starr’s grand jury — shaping up as a potential news blockbuster, Brokaw decided to delay a planned two-week hiatus by at least a day in order to report “NBC Nightly News” from D.C. on Monday. Peter Jennings decided earlier this week to come back from vacation early to do “World News Tonight” from D.C. (Daily Variety, Aug. 11).
Dan Rather, whose vacation had been slated for the end of the month, will also report from the nation’s capital for part of next week.
