Brazil b’caster shifts programming

New topper Travesso to drive project

RIO DE JANEIRO — Veteran telenovela producer and TV exec Nilton Travesso has been named to head programming at Bandeirantes, Brazil’s fourth-ranked broadcaster.

Travesso, who in his 45 years in TV has worked for most of the country’s networks, replaces Rubens Furtado.

Sao Paulo-based Bandeirantes, 21 years old this week, has dropped from third to fourth rank among broadcasters, and shifting the web’s sports-oriented image into the mainstream will be one of Travesso’s greatest challenges.

Bandeirantes’ programming will now rely on four pillars: musical shows, journalism and films as well as sports.
