BUENOS AIRES — Argentina’s independent cable operators plan to introduce premium services this year, following pacts with U.S.-backed programmers HBO Ole and LAPTV.
La Red Intercable, an association of 200 operators formerly known as SATV, says its member systems will all introduce premium tiers by the end of the year; 20 have already done so.
Tiering is a hot issue in Argentina, where film nets have traditionally been offered on basic, and where major MSOs Multicanal and CableVision have stalled in their attempts to shift such services onto a premium tier.
Repping 300,000 subscribers, La Red is also signing blanket carriage deals with basic-tier programmers, which lately have included CBS TeleNoticias and TCI-owned local programmer Pramer.
“We are growing fast and have achieved enough power to operate as another MSO,” said Dario Santini, La Red’s commercial manager.
