2nd ‘Jerry’ hits in N.Y.

Month-old shows bring in boffo ratings

NEW YORK — Another stunning sign that “The Jerry Springer Show” is hotter than anything else in TV syndication these days is the powerhouse Nielsen rating being chalked up on WPIX New York by the second daily run of “Springer” (featuring month-old episodes) at 9 a.m.

On Feb. 9, WPIX replaced the umpteenth reruns of “Brady Bunch” at 9 a.m. and “Blossom” at 9:30 with the “Springer” second-run and chalked up a hefty 4.9 rating and 16 share for the remainder of the February sweeps. WPIX airs the first run of “Springer” every weekday morning at 11.

The February sweeps were prologue to the overnight ratings on March 25, when “Springer” second-runs actually knocked off the long-dominant “Live With Regis & Kathie Lee” on WABC. “Springer’s” Nielsens on March 25 were a 5.5 rating and 19 share compared to Regis & Kathie Lee’s 5.1 and 18 share.
