'Sanders' vet to play star's boss
Jeffrey Tambor (“The Larry Sanders Show”) has been cast as Melanie Griffith’s co-star in the upcoming CBS comedy “Me & George.”
Tambor, who stars as Hank Kingsley in the HBO sitcom “The Larry Sanders Show,” is set to play Marty Zane, Griffith’s boss, in the Witt-Thomas sitcom for fall. Tambor’s deal includes a guaranteed number of episodes and a commitment for at least one CBS TV movie.
The series is executive produced by Paul Witt, Tony Thomas, Terri Minsky and Nina Wass. Tambor’s other credits include “L.A. Law,” the upcoming films “Meet Joe Black,” “Dr. Dolittle” and “There’s Something About Mary.”
Separately, Nia Long (“Soul Food,” “Love Jones”) has been cast in the ABC drama pilot from Columbia TriStar TV called “Black Jaq,” which is executive produced by Forest Whitaker. Long plays a spy who gets a new assignment in her hometown, New Orleans.
Whitaker, Alfred Gough and Miles Miller are executive producing, and the script was penned by Gough, Miller and Dawnn Lewis. Long is currently starring in “Secret Laughter of Women.” She’s repped by 3 Arts and Innovative Artists.
ABC’s upcoming Nancy Travis sitcom will now be executive produced and written by Nell Scovell, the creator of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” for Brillstein-Grey. Disney had previously been attached to the project, but Travis passed on the script there. The show may now be launched midseason.
Scovell and Travis will executive produce the pilot about a woman who leaves her job to be a full-time mother. Scovell is repped by UTA.
