New Line drew celeb blood in two cities with preems for “Blade” at L.A.’s Mann’s Chinese Theater and Gotham’s Sony Theaters Lincoln Square.
The slick pic’s stars Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff and Traci Lords turned out Aug. 20 in Hollywood.
Afterward, “Blade”-ers boogied till way past bedtime at the Hollywood Athletic Club where a d.j. spun hiphop and reggae hits. Partygoers included Kadeem Hardison, Jamie Foxx, Downtown Julie Brown, pic’s exec producer and comic book impresario Stan Lee, producer Peter Frankfurt and writer David S. Goyer.
To the east on the previous evening, the SRO crowd at the theater grew bloodthirsty as it waited nearly 1-1/2 hours for the screening to begin, but was pacified by New Line prexy Michael Lynne’s promise of an “exciting, smart and compelling” film.
Also on hand to toast the pic were New Line chairman Robert Shaye, Time Warner topper Gerald Levin and, from Marvel Comics, where the vampire-slayer character Blade originated, exec producers Avi Arad and Joseph Calamari. Stars Snipes and Dorff made the scene along with Lords, with guests moving after the screening to the packed-to-the-rafters Supper Club.
