Jerry Neil Capehart

Songrwriter/manager Jerry Neil Capehart, who co-wrote the hit “Summertime Blues,”died Sundayin Nashville, Tenn., from brain cancerat age 69.

He co-wrote the hit in 45 minutes in 1958 with Eddie Cochran, who recorded the first version.A hard rock version was done by Blue Cheer in 1968 and a pop version by “The Who” in 1970. Country star Alan Jackson recorded a version in 1994 that topped the country charts for three weeks.

Capehart also wrote Glen Campbell’s first hit single in 1961, “Turn Around, Look at Me.” Capehart at times managed Cochran, Campbell and impressionist Frank Gorshin.
